Soon after making the treck out through the forest we realised we had forgotten a few essential items (or so we thought.) We had a generator and light, with a blown bulb, a gas bottle and ring but no line to connect the two, so back to the days of old it was!
The net was set and a camp fire lite. We cooked a cassarole on the coals and baked fresh kahawai wrapped in tin foil! After Tea a primative spear was made from a broomstick with a fork tied to the end of it for floundering, that suprinsingly worked really well!
We then lounged on the dunes gazing toward the glassy night sky. Not a soul around for miles and the murmur of the waves pounding the shore in the distance. Yet another unforgettable weekend in Northland, and the gas bottle and noisy generator are now well and truly off the camping list.
So what are you waiting for? why not make these weekend memories your own and visit the north!
