People travelled from all parts of the North to the ceremony, from Whangarei, the Bay of Islands and down from Te Hapua, situated just south of Cape Reinga. The end result is a true credit to the designers and planners. As you enter the building a mural by local company Image-nation hypnotizes the observer, we guarantee you’re eyes will be firmly fixed on the floor. The legend of Maui fishing up the North Island is the story it tells. A majestic Sting Ray of Koru and swirls.  Shades of blues and green that leave you in awe of what lays beneath. With the museum cinema and local community hall all housed in this new centre the locals are sure to make good use of the facility for many years to come.

This past month has seen the time of year come again that most of us dread. The transition from sand & singlets to fires and fluffy jackets.

However it’s not all doom and gloom. Many locals took full advantage of the scallops that washed in on 90 Mile Beach last week, with reports saying there were more than anyone could possibly carry. It’s not often Northlands West Coast bears this rare treat, and we’re sure the snapper were close behind having a feast.

Early reports suggest opening season for the duck hunters went off with a bang. With clear weather from the Bay of Islands north, our little feathered friends were limited to where they could land safely. The hunter gatherer spirit is definitely in full swing here as the spoils of Northland have filled freezers from Paihia to Cape Reinga and taken the edge of the winter blues.
